Starr Double Action Army Revolver

 

A fine Civil War-era Starr Double Action Army Revolver chambered in .44 caliber, retaining a smooth dark gray patina across the steel surfaces with only light traces of the original blue finish remaining. Faint areas of blue can still be observed on the left side of the frame in front of and behind the cylinder, as well as just forward of the cylinder itself.

 

The left side of the frame is marked “Starr’s Patent Jan. 15, 1856,” while the right side is stamped “Starr Arms Co. New York” beneath the cylinder along with inspector initials “KK.” The frame below the loading lever bears serial number 11726 together with inspector initials “JG.”

 

The Starr’s unique double-action mechanism remains intact and functional. What appears to be the trigger is actually the cocking lever, while the true trigger is the small triangular projection located at the rear of the trigger guard. Both components remain in proper working order, along with the slide plate mounted to the rear of the cocking lever which engages the rapid-fire mechanism.

 

The walnut grips remain solid and attractive with an inspector’s cartouche visible on the left panel. Minor dents and light handling marks are present on the underside of the grips, likely accumulated during period use and storage. The revolver retains all original components and remains mechanically functional.

 

A strong and honest example of one of the more distinctive revolvers issued to Union forces during the Civil War, displaying attractive untouched surfaces and complete original configuration.
