Stephen Douglas / Herschel Johnson 1860 Campaign Token

 

Early 1860 campaign medal with a ferrotype image of Democratic presidential candidate Stephen A. Douglas set into the obverse of a coin-shaped brass frame. The reverse of the medal features a similar ferrotype photo of Herschel Vespasian Johnson, former Georgia governor and Douglas’s vice-presidential running mate in 1860. The medal measures 15/16” wide with some slight loss to the ferrotype emulsion in places. A fine addition to a collection of political or presidential memorabilia.

Comes housed in a 6 x 8 inch display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
