Description

U.S. Cartridge Box Plate – Sharpsburg Battlefield Recovery (w/ Leather Remnants) – Inventory Number: BEL 572 / SOLD Civil War U.S. cartridge box plate, recovered from the historic Antietam battlefield near Sharpsburg, Maryland. This oval brass plate retains its lead-filled back and traces of the original leather backing—an increasingly rare survival feature among dug relics. The front bears the standard raised “US” and has excellent patina consistent with age and burial. These plates were affixed to infantry cartridge boxes carried into battle by Union soldiers. A powerful battlefield relic from the bloodiest single day in American military history. Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card. Inventory Number: BEL 572 / SOLD
