Description

U.S. Model 1842 Springfield Percussion Musket with Bayonet & Scabbard

Ex: Don Troiani Collection

An excellent example of the U.S. Model 1842 percussion musket, manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1854. This .69 caliber, single-shot smoothbore musket retains its original bright finish with sharp edges and clear markings, reflecting very light service wear. Metal surfaces remain clean, with excellent bore and lock function, and the stock shows crisp contours and inspection marks.

Accompanying the musket is its original triangular socket bayonet, complete with black leather • scabbard and correct white buff leather frog, with stitching intact and leather surfaces well preserved.

The Model 1842 holds historical significance as the first U.S. musket produced in both percussion ignition and fully interchangeable parts, widely carried by both Union and Confederate troops in the early years of the Civil War. Complete sets with matching bayonet and period leather accoutrements are seldom encountered in this condition.
