Civil War–period U.S. officer’s coat button, displaying a boldly struck spread-winged eagle clutching arrows and olive branch, with shielded breast—classic mid-war Federal insignia. The face retains strong relief and an attractive untouched gilt finish, with only light, honest wear to the high points.

 

Reverse features the desirable “EXTRA QUALITY” backmark in a circular border, surrounding a sturdy copper shank. This grade of button was privately purchased by officers who sought better craftsmanship and brighter gilt than regulation-issue enlisted buttons.

 

A crisp, well-preserved example and an ideal representative of officer-grade uniform accoutrements. Perfect for display alongside swords, shoulder straps, or other high-quality officer material.
