William H. Tipton Photograph of the 32nd Massachusetts Infantry Monument – Inventory Number:  ALB 259 / Sold Large circa 1900 William H. Tipton photograph of the distinctive 32nd Massachusetts Infantry monument on the Stony Hill near the Wheatfield. The monument was dedicated in 1895 is a representation of a soldier’s shelter tent with a canteen hanging from the ridge pole. The photograph measures about 14” by 11” and is mounted on a cardboard mat with some scuffing and damage to the corners. Complete with Tipton’s “battlefield views” backmark in purple ink.  William H. Tipton (1850-1929) was a Gettysburg native and apprentice of the Tyson Brothers photographers as early as 1862.
