1849 Pocket Holster – Inventory Number: LEA 433

The .31 caliber Colt pocket was a very popular pistol manufactured from 1850 all the way through 1873. By the end of the Civil War serial numbers had reached 280,000. It was a favorite of western travelers, gold seekers, and Civil War officers who wanted a pistol for personal defense.

This is a nice example of belt holster for one of these revolvers, constructed of black leather with a military style flap and latch tab secured by a brass stud. The holster is configured to the pistol with the butt to the rear. A single belt loop sewn on the reverse is fully intact and in place. The latch tab is secured with triangle shaped stitching on the flap. The finish shows crazing and crackling overall, but the holster is solid, the seams are intact, and it still shows something of the form of a revolver.
