1864 Ames Musicians Sword – Inventory Number: SWO 284 / SOLD
The model 1840 musician sword was intended for musicians and were ceremonial in purpose, being worn by the musicians during drill and formations. The sword could be used in a fight, but only as a weapon of last resort. Marked U.S. A.D.K. 1864. Manufactured by Ames Manufacturing Company, Chicopee, Massachusetts. Marks: ricasso, MADE BY / AMES MFG CO. / CHICOPEE / MASS. (banner style), and US / (inspector) / 1863, additional inspector stamp "H.D.F." on guard. Scabbard present, drag inspector marked "G.W.C".
