Written while attending St. Mary's Hall in Burlington New Jersey. Also includes content discussing the fall of Richmond and the surrender of Robert E. Lee.

"April 7, 1865. Here I sit, all in white, writing the first in my journal ... On Monday April 3rd while sitting studying ... one of the girls came in crying at the top of her voice Richmond and Petersburg are ours. Oh what a shout! School was closed then, all the bells in town were rung, our chapel bell with the rest. All the loyal girls stood in the yard... We sang the star spangled banner, then what a time of rejoicing we did have."

"April 10, 1865 ... Today came the news of the surrender of Lee's army, soon now I pray, will peace spread over our land."

"April 15, 1865. How sad this day has been. While at the table at breakfast, the news went from one to the other that Lincoln our poor president had been shot in the head the night before while at the theatre with Mrs. Lincoln and friends. What rejoicing we have handover our recent victories. What great preparation was being made still further when this dreadful news is received. While the dreadful and cowardly act was being performed, what joy, what gladness there was at Ft. Sumpter, for the General Anderson was raising the same flag that four years before, on that very day, the same hour (noon 12 o'clock) had been taken down by those cowardly traitors."

Comes housed in 12 x 16 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card.
