In August 1894, the Pennsylvania National Guard held an encampment at Gettysburg, named “Camp Samuel W. Crawford” in honor of the Pennsylvania Reserves’ commander during the battle. This brass badge commemorated the encampment. The pin backed eagle holds a pair of crossed rifles in its talons. Suspended beneath is a brass shield depicting a Civil War soldier holding a musket, with a cannon and tent in the background. The badge reads N.G.P. Div. Encampment/ Gettysburg, PA. 1894.” An interesting piece of Gettysburg military history.
Comes housed in a 5 x 6 inch display case with green velvet backing and descriptive card.
