Dip pen manufactured by J.C. Aiken & Company, founded in New York City in 1864. This example has a mother of pearl handle and a decorative copper nib holder. The purple silk lined leatherette case is separated at the spine but has both brass closure hooks intact and “J.C. Aiken & Co.” embossed on the lid. An attractive period writing instrument.
