Brigadier General Epaulettes - Inventory Number: INS 345 / SOLD
Wonderful, cased pair of General Epaulettes
Promoted from Colonel to Brig. Epaulettes – with Eagles!
Complete with maker’s marked: (“Horstman Bros. & Co. Philadelphia”) brass label plate on case lid. Bright gilt epaulettes with silver sequined General stars affixed on top. The neatest attribute of these is that they originally had Colonels’ eagles mounted on shoulder strap, with gilt number “5” mounted within circular blue velvet disc trimmed in gilt [blue signifies infantry, number “5” signifies the Fifth regiment]. Double strand of hanging brass tassels, with connecting threads. Epaulette undersides of yellow silk, w/brown tie strings and brass strap fastener clips. Tin carrying case originally “jappaned” copper on the inside, & black on top & around the outer sides. Equipped with small handle on top, with clasp hasp on side.
The outer epaulette bullion & tassels nicely bright, with slight tarnish of numeral gilt, & silver Eagle wings. Blue circular silk is in good condition. The red silk underside is bright, with slight wear at the edges. The case has some light surface scratches and minor dents that do not detract. Much of the jappaning, both inside and out, is present and is 90% present. The hasp clasp is intact and functional. With some research it may be possible to identify these or narrow the possibilities greatly. Magnificent epaulette display set.
