Fired from the 5th NY Light Artillery Battery which fielded 6, 20lb.

Parrott Riffles during the battle. Sold as part of the Shield's Museum collection.

The Shields Museum was on the Gettysburg battlefield, along Chambersburg Pike, near the Buford and Reynolds monuments across from the McPherson barn.

Mr. Arthur Shields was a collector of Gettysburg Civil War relics and memorabilia. He opened his museum in Gettysburg in 1925 and the museum featured many items recovered by Mr. Shields and others from the Battle of Gettysburg. The contents of the museum were sold in November, 1985 and most of the items are now in private collections.

Twenty-pound Federal 3.67" Parrott artillery projectile that was recovered from the Culp's Hill area soon after the Battle of Gettysburg. This hefty Parrott shell specimen, most likely a drop, still retains its wrought iron sabot and the original brass, time fuse adapter. Designed by Robert P. Parrott in August 1861, the shell was used with the 20-pounder Parrott rifle of 3.67" caliber. Shell measures 10" long, has a diameter of 8.63" and weighs almost 17 pounds. This example is in good condition and had been deactivated. Exterior surface is abraded with scattered pitting. A wonderful artillery example of a 20-pounder Parrott projectile from Gettysburg!
