.58 Caliber Minie Bullet in Wood from The Battle of Chancellorsville / SOLD

A well-preserved piece of a tree with a .58 caliber Minie Ball fired into it during the Battle of Chancellorsville. There is a small amount of glue keeping the bullet in place. The wood measures 4.5 inches long. The battle against Joseph Hooker’s Army of the Potomac in the dense thickets surrounding Chancellorsville is considered Gen. Robert E. Lee’s greatest military victory.  It was the last battle for Confederate Lt. Gen. Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson, who was mortally wounded there by friendly fire. Over 30,000 men were casualties of the battle between April 30 and May 6, 1863.
