    Abraham Lincoln - Mourning Portrait - This hand colored lithograph was generated immediately after the assassination of President Lincoln by the firm of Chr. Kimmel & Forster of New York.  A scarce tribute to the martyred President . Inscribed: Abraham Lincoln,/ Sixteenth President of the United States./ Born Feb. 12th 1809. Died April 15th 1865.  Print shows Abraham Lincoln, head-and-shoulders portrait, facing right, in oval.  Framed, frame measures 17" x 13 3/4". 

    An American engraving firm, based in New York, Chr. Kimmel & Co., created original engravings for various mid 19th century publications such as, Godey's Lady's Book and Frank Leslie's Ladies' Gazette.  Kimmel was an engraver of vignettes and portraits working in New York around 1850 and that he later became a member of the New York engraving firm of Capewell & Kimmel which in time would become the firm of Chr. Kimmel & Company.
