July 28th 1865 - Union General William T. Sherman writes to an acquaintance – Stephen Masut Esq.  while in Lancaster Ohio.

“Mrs. Sherman has handed me your letter of July 23 in which you complain in my neglect in not acknowledging… the truth is I have been much on the (?) as you…. I remember you quite well from San Fransico, even when your residence was at (?) and whilst you have been studying in the far East. I have been wandering in our own vast area but waiting as little as possible.
