Ames Foot Officer's Sword - Inventory Number: SWO 153 / SOLD

Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword - Ames of Chicopee, Mass.

The polished steel blade has a partial shallow fuller on each side and 20" etched panels on both sides. The right side has a bold "E PLURIBUS UNUM" banner with American eagle, arms motifs, and foliate scrolls. Etched near the ricasso "Ames Mfg Co/ Chicopee/ Mass". The opposite side features foliate scrolls and arms motifs as well as a large "U.S.". The gilt brass hilt is chased and features a pierced guard and sharkskin covered grip with twisted gilt brass wire. Black leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts, the left side of the throat mount is stamped with Ames manufacturing marks.  Very nice quality example!
