Antietam Relic Cane - Inventory Number: VET 282
Wonderful cane carved out of a tree branch from the Antietam battlefield. The cane is carved in relief and reads “RELIC OF THE WAR. CANE CUT OF THE ANTIETAM BATTLE FOUGHT SEPTEMBER 17th 1862. CARVED BY S F HEBB. PRESENTED by JOSEPH A JACKSON. OFFICERS OF THE BATTLE. GENL LEE. GENL JOHNSON. GENL HOOKER. GENL BURNSIDE. GENL JACKSON.” There is an area carved out of the cane that once had a Minie bullet nailed into it. The end of the cane was broken off many years ago. An excellent veteran’s relic from the bloody Battle of Antietam.
