Artillery Rammer - Inventory Number: ART 311 / SOLD
Original wooden rammer for the twelve-pound howitzer. This device was used to ram the artillery round and powder bag into the cannon, the opposite end outfitted with a sponge device which, when soaked with water, would be used to swab the barrel and extinguish embers. The diameter of 3.67” indicates that this scarce implement was for the 12-pound gun and length of 35” it would have been serviced with the mountain howitzer.
