Band Spring Punch - First appearing in the Army 1855 Rifle Musket manual where it was called a tumbler & wire punch these same combination tools were later designated as band spring & tumbler punch as they were described in the Army’s 1861 Ordinance manual. All Union Civil War rifle contractors supplied these tools at a rate of one combination tool to every ten rifles. With good evidence of age and originality, this example remains in excellent original condition. A nice companion item with the Civil War rifle musket this tool will go nicely in any period issue rifle cartridge box accoutrement pouch.
