This Confederate projectile pattern was patented by Theophilus Alexander Blakely. The majority of the battlefield recovered 12-pounder (3.5-inch caliber) Blakely projectiles have come from the 1863 Siege of Port Hudson, Louisiana. This example was formerly part of the MOLLUS museum collection inventory 86.1.13. Original 1880’s wooden museum display base accompanies the shell.
