Bullet Damaged Civil War Sibley Tent Stove - Inventory Number: CAM 540 / SOLD
Henry Hopkins Sibley (1818-1886) graduated from West point in 1838, was commissioned a second lieutenant in 2nd U.S. Dragoons, and served in the Seminole War.
In 1856, he patented the "Sibley Tent" that could accommodate 20 soldiers and their gear. His tent became widely used on the frontier.
Sibley also invented the "Sibley Stove" to provide heat within the tent. This example was recovered from Fredericksburg, Virginia and exhibits a series of bullet strikes! The metal surface exhibits even pitting with some original paint remaining. The door remains and operates smoothly.
A wonderful camp item with battle damage, perfect for a camp or bullet damaged collection!
