Bullet Struck Sibley Stove Fredericksburg, VA - Inventory Number: CON 496

Historic original example of the famed Sibley tent stove.  This Civil War manufactured example is battlefield recovered and was once part of a large collection of Fredericksburg Relics.  The flue door is missing, and the body exhibits multiple bullet dents and several holes from the projectiles penetrating as well as causing damage upon exiting.  A wonderful battlefield relic!

Henry Hopkins Sibley (1818-1886) graduated from West point in 1838, was commissioned a second lieutenant in 2nd U.S. Dragoons, and served in the Seminole War. In 1856, he patented the "Sibley Tent" that could accommodate 20 soldiers and their gear.  His tent became widely used on the frontier.

Sibley also invented the "Sibley Stove" to provide heat within the tent.  This example was recovered from Fredericksburg, Virginia and exhibits a series of bullet holes which passed through the stove!  The metal surface exhibits even pitting throughout with a 16” crack at the seam.  The top edge is rolled inward.  The door is lacking.

A wonderful camp item with battle damage, perfect for a camp or bullet damaged collection!
