    C. R. Kirschbaum Model 1840 Cavalry Saber - Inventory Number:  SWO 237 / SOLD

Model 1840 “wristbreaker” cavalry saber made by C.R. Kirschbaum and Company between 1848 and 1858. The ricasso is stamped with the Kirschbaum maker’s mark “K & C” in oval. The blade is bright with very light, scattered pitting and a clean edge. The brass guard has a pleasing, mellow patina with the classic Kirschbaum pointed quillon. The leather grip is in solid condition with some slight leather loss towards the quillon, and is complete with twisted brass wire wrap. The original leather washer is intact around the ricasso. The scabbard is in very good condition with light, scattered pitting. A nice example of a saber that could have been wielded by either side throughout the Civil War.
