Civil War 6th Corps Badge - Inventory Number: INS 263

The idea of a distinctive badge for each army corps was adopted by General Joseph Hooker after he assumed command of the Army of the Potomac. Daniel Butterfield, Hooker's chief of staff, was assigned the task of designing a distinctive shape for each corps badge. This silver 6th Corps badge is in the regulation form of a Greek cross. It measures 1 1/8” across with a T-bar pin on the back. A classic wartime example from a hard fighting corps of the Army of the Potomac.

Comes housed in a 5 x 6 inch display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
