Civil War Artillery Hat Brass - Inventory Number: INS 251 / SOLD

A nice set of excavated brass insignia that were meant to be worn on the crown of the forage cap or the front of the US Army “Hardee” hat. The crossed cannons represented the artillery branch; these were relatively fragile, and this pair was dug in three pieces. The accompanying number “1” and letter “D” would have represented Battery D of the 1st Artillery. A nice display of headgear insignia recovered in Virginia.

Comes housed in a display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
