Civil War Brass Oval Snuff Box - Inventory Number: CAM 151 / SOLD
Measures approximately 3 1/8" x 1 5/8" and is approximately 1/2" deep. Contained pipe tobacco. Throughout the Civil War snuff production and use increased. Snuff use was even recommended by doctors as a general cure-all, particularly effective in the treatment of coughs, colds, and headaches. Many soldiers carried snuff in tins similar to this one in their haversacks.
