This authentic Civil War leather cartridge box for the military rifles has the two slits on the outer flap where the plate would have been affixed at one time. The flap is missing the leather closure. The outer surfaces of the box exhibit wear from age and use. The box still has the brass finial at the bottom. One of the roller buckles is present on the bottom of the box. The back of the box has the entire belt and shoulder strap loops still intact. These were designed so the box could have been worn on the soldier’s belt or on the sling, whichever the soldier preferred. The inner flap has both ears, but exhibits a bit of wear. The innermost compartment is missing a portion of the leather and the tins are lacking.
