This is an authentic Civil War leather cartridge box for the military rifles. The outer surfaces of the box exhibit light wear from age and use. The closure tab is torn and brass finial is present at the bottom. One of the roller buckles is present on the bottom of the box. The back of the box has the belt and shoulder strap loops still intact. These were designed so the box could have been worn on the soldier’s belt or on the sling. The inner flap is in nice shape and has both ears. The maker's mark "A.W. DECROW, BANGOR ME." is present and bold. On the innermost compartment it has both of the original tins that held the cartridges in place.
