Civil War Era Marine Signal Lantern - Inventory Number: CAM 382 / Sold
Wonderful original mid-19th century lantern, constructed of tin with a fluted ventilator, clear magnifying bull's-eye lens, and a knob below the lens which can be pulled from left to right, rotating an interior cylinder, thus blocking the light. Retains its original period whale oil burner with two vertical wick tubes: 7 inches high.
Research suggests that a similar signal lamp was recovered from the ill-fated Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley.
