Civil War Era Tobacco Twist - Inventory Number: MIS 272 / SOLD
Tobacco was an enormously important sutler ware, as many soldiers felt they could not do without it. By 1864 it became an official ration item in the Confederate Army. Chewing tobacco was popular, and many soldiers developed a dependency upon it. It was easy to carry and could be enjoyed no matter what the soldier was doing: marching, standing guard, or camping in the rain. These "pigtail" curls or "twist" could be chewed or smoked. Would make a great addition to any Civil War collection.
