Pair of Civil War field glasses with leather covered
bodies. In the open position, they
measure approximately 4” x 4” x 2 ½”.
They are unmarked, which allowed the retailer to sell them without advertising for the actual maker. Classic Civil War era construction of the body. Made with the straight bar holding the 2 sides together. The later production binoculars have the curved joint to allow for a person's nose for a better fit.
The optics on these still work great. The mechanics that raise and lower the eyepieces function and the action is a smooth. Overall, they are in genuinely nice condition, only showing normal use. Accompanied by their original leather case with velvet lining.
