Civil War Match Safe - Inventory Number: CAM 326
Lathe turned, whitewood match safe. This near mint example was part of a cache of originals recently uncovered from a period warehouse outside of Boston, Massachusetts. This was still contained in the period shipping crate when discovered. It is identical height, construction and material of an example recovered from the wreckage of the Arabia, a steamboat which hit a snag and sank in the Missouri River near what today is Kansas City, Kansas, on September 5, 1856.
