This is a nicely marked Civil War US navy artillery fuse box embossed with "Navy Yard N.Y. 1864" and an anchor on the outer flap. This leather pouch went on the belt of the Civil War naval artilleryman. It held his paper timed fuses for cannonballs. The original closure tab is present, and the bottom of the box has the brass finial. On the back of the box is the original leather belt loop solidly intact. The leather is very supple with some crazing in places. This will make a fine addition for a naval or artillery collector.
