Civil War Snake Buckle on Belt - Inventory Number: BEL 497 / SOLD

Pewter “snake buckle” for waist belts. This non-excavated example of the English-import snake buckle is well-documented as used by Confederates during the Civil War. This particular specimen is complete with both keepers, the adjuster and original woven brown cotton belt. The two belt loops retain their original shape with very little “pulling”. The snake-hook portion is the type that is single headed and unadorned with detailed scales. An excellent example for a Confederate English Import display.
