This is the regulation Civil War artillery fuse pouch, intended to carry some of the essential tools for a gun crew and worn on a leather with a roller buckle. Constructed of russet leather with two belt loops sewn to the upper rear of the box and a closure tab secured to the inside of the flap by a single line of stitching. The finish shows some crazing and wear from use, and the box has a split in the leather along the back, bottom edge. The front flap is marked “U.S. Watervliet Arsenal” just above the closure tab stitch. A well-used example and a must have addition to a Civil War artillery or accoutrement collection.
