Civil War pattern 1839 US enlisted belt buckle. Lead filled with arrow style hooks behind the letter “S”. The plate has a slight bend near the adjustment hook, and the face has a slick, deep bronze patina. The plate comes with the original U.S. enlisted belt from which it has separated from, as the attachment points for the arrow hooks have been torn. Somewhat dry but still flexible, the belt shows the faint shadow of a maker’s mark and stitch holes where the early-war style leather keeper was once affixed. A nice ensemble that shows honest field wear.
