Confederate 12 Pounder Bormann Fuzed Half Case-Shot Shell – Inventory Number: CON 574 / SOLD
Cast iron with solder Bormann time fuze, brass under-plug, lead shot in an asphalt matrix. In very good condition, excavated, with no repairs. The interior shows cross-sections of about 20 lead balls as well as the cross-sections of the fuze and brass under-plug. The cut at the shell's equator appears even and smooth, and the exterior iron is pitted. This half case-shot is inactive. A complete example of a Confederate 12 pounder Bormann fuzed case-shot can be found in "Field Artillery Ordnance", by Jack W. Melton, Jr., and Lawrence E. Pawl on page 55. This artillery half case-shot will not only be an excellent educational tool but will also be a nice addition to any Civil War collection.
