This is an example of the combination of Read's wrought iron sabot and Parrott's body design. This projectile was intended to be fired from the 10-pounder (2.9-inch caliber) Parrott rifle. Confederate projectiles with this body style should be properly referred to as Read-Parrott's. This is possibly the manufacturing by A.J. Rahm, who was proprietor of Eagle Machine Works, located in Richmond, Virginia. His company manufactured artillery, artillery carriages, ammunition and tools, and outfitted gunboats during the period between 1862 and 1864.
