Confederate Side Knife With Virginia History - Inventory Number: CON 456 / SOLD

Nice confederate side knife accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity stating: “I Giuliano Cipolla, Fine sword collector and authority on such, purchased this fine Civil War Confederate small side knife, from the collection if Homer “MacArthur “Mac Cole” of Chester Virginia. Mac Cole had a museum-like collection, he was a renowned expert on Civil War relics, and was the owner of Cole’s Coins and Collectibles.  The Confederate knife measures 9.5 inches overall with a 5-inch double edge spear point blade in excellent condition overall.  The walnut grip has a German silver applique, and the upper mount is likewise German silver. The drag is long gone. The original leather scabbard has a seam split on the rear, but otherwise very solid. The blade is still sharp and bright for the age.  This is in my opinion most likely a locally crafted item, and not factory made, a classic side knife of the era.  According to the estate, Mac Cole, Identified it to a soldier from Harrison Virginia from61st or 62nd.  I certify this knife as authentic with a lifetime guarantee.”

The knife appears to have been with this sheath since the war, It is my opinion that it is a period replacement to the piece.  I do concur with the remainder of the information contained within the COA by the previous dealer.
