Double Telescopes - "Professor Lowe" - Inventory Number: MIS 060 / SOLD
Wonderful rare example of the “double telescope,” or binoculars, absolutely identical to the set owned by Thaddeus Sobieski Constantine Lowe, the founder and head of the Aeronautic Corps that provided aerial intelligence to Union commanders, 1861-1863. Covered in rayskin with “Savage Lyman – Montreal” a well regarded optics manufacturer whom was in business from 1857-1867. Wonderful series of 10 lenses, all functional. A great pair, google professor Lowe's double telescope to see his set in the Smithsonian.
