Both Union and Confederate armies used this type of a model 1856 Enfield saber bayonet. This original saber bayonet made for the two-band Enfield .577 caliber musket. Measures 28” overall and has a 22½” long steel blade with a single 15” long fuller on each side. All iron has a smooth, pewter-gray surface. Blade is marked T&W.W. and A&A.S. on ricasso.
Cross guard measures 4 ¼”. Quillions at bottom and atop muzzle ring. Grips are checkered black leather and in excellent condition. Has “bird’s head” shaped pommel with locking spring “button” release. Original scabbard is present and in good condition with some wear from use but solid with very nice iron furniture.
