Great wartime image of a private from the 6th Massachusetts infantry, company "C". Nicely posed image of a young soldier displaying his forage cap with regimental number and company letter. The neatest part of this image is the English belt rig with snake buckle. Commonly captured shipments in the blockade were issued to regiments (typically those near port towns). Scarce to find Union images depicting this plate, published in Sidney Kerksis belt plate book. Backmark: Warren / Lowell and Cambridgeport.
