Complete bayonet for the 1853 Enfield in exceptional dug condition. The socket end is so clean that it looks nearly non excavated, with some markings on the blade clearly visible. Measures full length at nearly 20.5 inches. Recovered from The Wilderness battlefield, Virginia. The hard-fought Battle of the Wilderness on May 5-6, 1864 was the first showdown between Lee and Grant and resulted in nearly 29,000 casualties in the tangled thickets west of Fredericksburg.
