G.A.R. Belt and Plate - Inventory Number: VET 227

The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union who had served in the American Civil War.

Measures 3 1/4 inches long by 2 inches wide.  Face of the plate is cast with a raised membership medallion depicting the branches of military service as well as the letters G.A.R. in an arch above.  This example retains nearly all its original gild finish and is mounted on a deluxe leather belt with tooled design and ornate adjuster device.  Nice high-grade example.
