    G.A.R. Quilt from Rank Post 534 Gnadenhutten, Tuscarawas County, Ohio - Inventory Number: VET 257 / SOLD

    Exceptional Civil War veteran’s quilt measuring 76 x 65 inches. The quilt includes 67 panels of cream colored and light brown cloth with browned ink inscriptions; 3 of these panels have specific post information including “Rank Post G.A.R. no. 534,” “Rank Relief Corps no. 242,” and “R.P. Kennedy Camp 92.” Five panels include the names of Ohio Generals (Grant, Sherman, Sheridan, Garfield, and Benjamin Harrison) and the remaining 59 panels bear the names of 59 Tuscarawas County Soldiers including 10 who were killed or died of disease during the Civil War. The regiments represented on this quilt include the 6th Ohio Light artillery, 18th US Infantry, 72nd USCT, and the following Ohio Infantry Regiments: 16th, 19th, 23rd, 24th, 29th, 30th, 51st, 80th, 98th, 126th, 142nd, 161st, 189th, and 196th. Rank Post 534 was chartered on July 31, 1885. A file folder contains a record of every soldier listed on the quilt. A historic textile that represents a wealth of Ohio Civil War soldiers’ service.
