General Meagher at the Battle of Fair Oaks, VA June Ist 1862* is a hand-colored lithograph that depicts General Meagher leading the Irish Brigade during the Battle of Fair Oaks. The battle took place in Henrico County, Virginia, from May 31-June 1, 1862. It was part of the Peninsula Campaign, which was an offensive led by Union Major General George B. McClellan. The print was popular with New York Irish, but some Union units were upset by what they perceived as distorted publicity for Meagher.
