Celluloid pin made in commemoration of the 50th anniversary reunion at Gettysburg. The pin measure 1 3/16” and depicts a Union and Confederate soldier shaking hands beneath their respective flags and bears the legend “50th Anniversary 1863-1913/ Battle of Gettysburg.” The back of the pin has a maker’s mark of Shapiro & Karr of Philadelphia. The 1913 Gettysburg reunion was held from June 29 to July 4, 1913. With 53,407 Civil War veterans, it was the largest ever Civil War veteran reunion. All honorably discharged veterans in the Grand Army of the Republic and the United Confederate Veterans were invited, and veterans from 46 of the 48 states attended.
