Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) – Inventory Number: VET
367
This original post-war G.A.R. belt features a silvered buckle with raised
“G.A.R.” lettering surrounded by a field of stars, symbolizing the unity of
Union veterans. The woven cream-colored fabric belt remains in solid condition
and is complete with the correct clasp hardware. These belts were typically
worn during parades, reunions, and official functions by members of the Grand
Army of the Republic — a fraternal organization founded in 1866 for Union Civil
War veterans. A fine piece of post-war memorabilia with excellent display
presence.
