This grouping consists an 1880’s photograph Overby copied from a civil war image with a cavalry saber and revolver and the spoon and fork half of a travelling mess utensil. “This folding fork and spoon was carried by Stephen Oberby (Grandfather of Lillie Sites) when he was a Union Captain during the Civil War in the 1860’s”

Enlisted on 8/10/1862 at Russellville, KY as a Corporal into Co. “D” of the 8th Kentucky Cavalry. He was Mustered Out on 9/23/1863 at Russellville, KY. He re-enlisted on 3/22/1865 at Louisville, KY as a Captain. On 3/22/1865 he was commissioned into Co. “C” of the 17th Kentucky Cavalry.
